Oregon Country Fair

April 28, 2009

I just received word that I was accepted as a vendor for this years Oregon Country Fair!  For those of you who are unfamiliar with the Fair, it is an annual three-day fair that begins on the Friday of the second weekend in July in Veneta, Oregon, about 15 miles west of Eugene.  Last year around 45,000 people attended.

The Fair began as a barter and craft fair in 1969 to raise funds for an alternative school and has been held every year since.  It is a prime example of how “alternative” values such as cooperation, artistic creativity, naturalism, environmental awareness, localism, and concern for the welfare of the world can be successfully integrated.  It really is an amazing event, if you are in the area you should ABSOLUTELY attend…and look me up!

Check out more information about the fair here and here

Below are some photos I took last year

New toys

Picked up some cool gadgets last week

First and foremost is a new backup system.  I have far outgrown my onboard hard drive and have invested in a NAS.  I decided on the Western Digital My Book World 1TB

wd_wdh1nc10000nThe setup was super easy – just plug it into your router, run the included software and your up and running.  1TB should last me for a while, so far the system works for me.

I also picked up a new wireless router, the D-Link Rangebooster N Dual Band.

329363It produces a wireless signal on the 2.4GHz or 5GHz band giving me much faster transfer speeds and greater wireless coverage.  This is a major upgrade from the century old Airport Express I was running before.  So far the bump in speed is noticable, especially when transfering files to and from the new NAS.

And lastly I picked up a new thumb drive.  The LaCie 8gb iamakey.

iamakeyIt replaces my trusty 512mb Sandisk micro cruiser, that thing lived on my keychain and made it through hell.  The iamakey is made out of solid metal, has scratch and water resistant gold SIP contact points and seems to be fairly well built.  The large capacity of this drive allows me to set up a portable apps system, if you havnt heard of portable apps, its definetly worth checking out.
